So schön kann Schmutz sein: Dieses Fotoprojekt macht die gesundheitsschädlichen Schadstoffe in der Luft sichtbar.
Scientists believe they have identified the world’s cleanest air, free from particles caused by human activity, located over the Southern Ocean, which surrounds Antarctica.
In a first-of-its-kind study of the bioaerosol composition of the Southern Ocean, researchers from Colorado State University identified an atmospheric region which remains unchanged by human activity.
Human-made, or anthropogenic pollution is now essentially ubiquitous on Earth and can be found everywhere we look, and in almost every ecosystem. Toxic metals from industry have been detected high in the Himalayan peaks. Plastic fibres have been found in the deepest reaches of the Pacific Ocean, contaminating tap water across the globe. Air pollution continues to be a major health hazard in urban and rural communities.
Geneva, 9 July 2020 – The annual mean global temperature is likely to be at least 1° Celsius above pre-industrial levels (1850-1900) in each of the coming five years (2020-2024) and there is a 20% chance that it will exceed 1.5°C in at least one year, according to new climate predictions issued by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
There are a lot of ways to size up buildings, whether by measuring their height, comparing styles of architecture or dissecting their histories. But in the era of climate change, more and more emphasis is being placed on a building’s „green“ credentials, as environmental impact leads decisions around design, construction and operations.
High levels of air pollution may be “one of the most important contributors” to deaths from Covid-19, according to research. The analysis shows that of the coronavirus deaths across 66 administrative regions in Italy, Spain, France and Germany, 78% of them occurred in just five regions, and these were the most polluted.
WASHINGTON — Coronavirus patients in areas that had high levels of air pollution before the pandemic are more likely to die from the infection than patients in cleaner parts of the country, according to a new nationwide study that offers the first clear link between long-term exposure to pollution and Covid-19 death rates.

LAPSE (Effects of Low-Level Air Pollution: A Study in Europe) is a Europe-wide collaboration in a research project Mortality and morbidity effects of long-term exposure to low-level PM2.5, Black Carbon, NO2 and O3: an analysis of European cohorts. The Project is funded by Health Effects Institute under the RFA 14-3: Assessing Health Effects of Long-term Exposure to Low Levels of Ambient Air Pollution and runs from mid-2016 to mid-2019.
